This magnificent hand-crafted piece is a superb example of furniture design of the Renaissance Revival period.  Made by skilled craftsman, they decorated such pieces with varying combinations of flowers, fruits, game, classical busts, acanthus, scrolls, strapwork, tassels and masks.  This stunning piece has much of the above, however the carved game motifs of a pheasant and lobster on the doors are simply exquisite.

  • solid oak timber construction
  • circa 1850 - 1880
  • exquisite carvings of game, fruit, flowers, acanthus, ribbons
  • carved edging to the top & base
  • carved finger-grip handles
  • 2 hand-cut dovetail-joined drawers
  • 1 lock, 1 key (cabinet only)
  • single fixed height level timber shelf (removable)
  • turned flat bun feet

Condition overview; in good condition, relative to its age, it is a very solid, sturdy and beautifully crafted piece.  The lock, drawers and doors all work well.  As expected on a used piece of this vintage, it displays general wear, knock and surface marks.  In addition, there is age-related separation of the timber on the top, however this does not affect its structural integrity whatsoever.  Also, it would have had a top section at some stage, as a complete Vaisselier.

Dimensions; 1255mm wide x 550mm deep x 990mm high.  Internal shelf height clearances from top to bottom; 335mm, 320mm.  Internal depth; 445mm deep.
