This superb sideboard, made by Brenner of London, is a fabulous example of Art Deco design of the era. Along with a Bakelite makers plate, it also has a Bakelite ‘Kitemark’; the Kitemark was introduced in 1903 – it is a UK product and service quality certification mark which is owned and operated by the British Standards Institute (BSI). The numbers 1960 do not represent a date, as often mistaken, it is a registered BIS number. It features;
- Solid oak timber construction
- circa 1930’s / 40’s
- superb hand-carved features
- stepped / break-front design
- 3 dovetail-joined drawers (the centre one is a felt-lined base cutlery drawer)
- hidden finger-grip handles
- 2 door cabinet
- single fixed height level shelf
- bracket feet

Condition overview; in good condition, relative to its age, it is a very solid, beautifully crafted piece. The doors and drawers all work well. As expected on a used piece of this vintage, it displays general wear, knock and surface marks but nothing major to note.
