This fabulous fully lockable desk is a superb example of Fred Ward furniture made for Myer Heritage. A highly regarded designer (1947 – 1988), his furniture design is characterised by his pioneering use of unstained Australian timbers. Among some of the timbers he used to make furniture were Australian blackwood, myrtle, coachwood, walnut, fiddle-back and whitegum; all used to compliment the clean, simple and flowing lines of his designs.

Condition overview; in good condition, relative to its age, it is an extremely solid (and heavy) beautifully crafted piece. The drawers, locks and slide-out return all work well. As expected on a used piece of this vintage, it displays a general wear, knock and surface marks and the finish is inconsistent in areas. In addition, the knob on the bottom right-hand side drawer is not original to the piece. Also, the back left-hand side leg has been damaged, however this does not affect its structural integrity.
Dimensions; 1650mm wide x 905mm deep (return open; 1285mm deep) x 760mm high. Return; 375mm deep x 710mm high. Knee hole; 680mm wide x 730mm high.
