Two hand-written labels provide a rare provenance to this superb library bookcase.  We believe it was constructed in England and shipped to the recipient on the labels; F. E. Paiee Esquire, The Hume Pipe and Concrete Construction Company (India) Ltd, Ihana Station, Bombay.  In 1926, the name of the company was changed to The Indian Hume Pipe Co. Ltd and continue to operate to this day.  A beautifully hand-crafted piece, it features;

hand-made original glass to the doors

peg-joined construction

1 lock, 1 key

6 height adjustable timber shelves (removable)

bun feet

Condition overview; in good condition, relative to its age, it is a very solid and sturdy piece.  There are no cracks in the glass and the lock works well.  As expected on a used piece of this vintage, it displays general wear marks and knocks.

Dimensions; 955mm wide x 455mm deep x 1900mm high.  Internal depth; 365mm deep.
